About the Event
The Marbaum Collection is a renowned private art quilt collection assembled by Marvin Fletcher and his late wife, Hilary. Spanning over 80 works, it documents the evolution of the contemporary art quilt movement from the 1980s onward. A large portion of these quilts now permanently reside at the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles in California.
Fletcher will be speaking about the Marbaum Collection. He will share how the collection started, what he collects, and how he chooses quilts. He will show images of some of the quilts collected over the past 40 years.
Marvin Fletcher, Professor Emeritus, taught American History at Ohio University for about 50 years. His late wife, Hilary, was project director for Quilt National from 1982 to 2006. It was through her that they began collecting art quilts.
