About the Event
Kit will share her processes, techniques and materials for sewing layers of strips of hand-dyed fabric to a pieced substrate. She will show how blending these together creates images in which various shades follow each other in a progressive harmonious way. She will invite you to look beyond the surface, to discover the magic of broken colour and its impact on the quilted surface. She has found that fabric does this better than any other medium.
Kit is best known for large, innovative quilts featuring textured lines that convey the illusion of rough colourful brushstrokes. Her work investigates expressive themes grounded in two dimensional design, negative space, colour, and subtle texture. Kit works as a full time studio artist in Ottawa Ontario, Canada.
Her work has been exhibited in numerous exhibitions and art galleries including the Schweinfurth Art Centre, Auburn NY, the Textile Museum of Canada, Toronto Ontario, the Dairy Barn Art Centre, Athens, Ohio, and the Tuch Technick Textilmuseum, Neumunster Germany. This past year her quilt 'Fracas' won Best of Show at Quilt National 2021.
